Noboru Ishiguro, the original director of Macross, Megazone 23, and other great anime japanese animation, passed away on March 20th, 2012 due to a lung infection he could not fight off.
Even though most of his work was not seen in the United States until the 1990’s since Robotech was only an adaptation of his original creation in 1986, he stands alone as one of the few founders of anime inside of the United States of America. He also was the founder of the first anime featured film in the USA for Macross: Do You Remember Love. He is the pioneer of main steaming Japanese animation today.
